Here's the marrow, chillin' on my bedside table. They just plopped it down and went to get some supplies - it was weird to see it sitting there like that.

Here's my nurse Manju with the marrow right before she hung it on R2:

Here's Gus with the marrow:

And here's the marrow hanging on R2 - Manju made a little sling for the bag so it would hang nicely:

Julia came to visit today! She brought me goodies and we had lunch and hung out. And here's her, in this really hot outfit she's been telling me about. It's all the rage for this summer - pink mask, paper smock, and hot purple gloves. She's a fashion pioneer. That's Gus standing next to her with the Happy Birthday balloon she brought me:
We took some photos of Gus and me right before the transplant, but I look completely stoned from the Benadryl so I didn't bother to upload them. I got platelets this evening (yuck) and now I'm just hanging out - Dad just arrived and he's hanging out for a while before he goes back to family housing to do all of my laundry! Like I said before, I generate an astonishing amount of laundry. :)
That's it - it was a great day. Like I said, a bit anti-climactic, but hopefully this is my new beginning and the drama will be over within a few months. I'm not looking forward to the rest of the month or the GVHD or anything, but I guess it's a necessary evil in order for me to get cured.

That's a very cool video of the HSCs working their way in ... I <3 HSCs!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I <3 you too! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a hefty bag of marrow! Gus and Manju are very convincing spokesmodel-people, it looks like you've won an amazing bag-o-maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrooooooooooow!! And are those nitrile gloves?! I'm secretly jealous. You guys are hard core.... and you remind me of this..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDS83yrM30Y
ReplyDeletewhich, I know is completely random, but when have I ever been "normal?" :) Happy Birthday!
Happy 0 Birthday!! So, glad to hear everything went well:-)
ReplyDeleteHi Jess,
ReplyDeleteHappy 0th Birthday! Glad everything is going well. True, it seems a bit anti-climactic for a marrow transplant. But a lot of good things are anti-climactic, I felt like that about my thesis defense and that was definitely a good thing.
But those purple gloves? They're so 2000, we used to have those in the physics lab I worked in as an undergrad. Sorry, they're just not ripe for a fashion revival yet ;)
Lots of love,
Surrogate
Got to your room after the BMT but in time to see and be apart of the new YOU! Wow! Got to see you on both Birthdays! Now that's weird! DAD
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! You got the cure. My daughter loved your video and asked to watch it over and over.
ReplyDeleteBest, Sarah

ReplyDeleteHi Jessica, just catching up on my blog reading. You've been busy! Congratulations on your 0th birthday - finally.
ReplyDeleteStrangely enough, I thought I saw a Tribble hanging out in the costume shop the last time I was there. Maybe I'll stick a mask on it and send it your way.
(edited for crappy spelling).
