I've been craving hot cinnamon rolls lately, and decided I was going to make them myself from scratch. I decided to try Alton Brown's recipe - his recipes are usually good, and relatively straightforward and precise. And since the recipe makes 12, I figured I'd freeze 9 of them and just bake 3 for Gus and I this morning. Once they're frozen, you just take them out of the freezer the night before and leave them on the counter, and then in the morning, they're ready to bake! All you have to do at that point is make the cream cheese glaze while they're baking. It's a lot of work up front, but there's a big reward and now we literally have 9 cinnamon rolls ready to go in the freezer. And of course...I took pictures of the deliciousness. :)
First off, here's the recipe:
Overnight Cinnamon RollsHere are the unbaked rolls, sliced and sitting on parchment paper, ready for the freezer. My theory was that I'd freeze them like this overnight, and then this morning take the individually frozen rolls, wrap them individually in Saran Wrap, and then put them all in a freezer bag.

And here are the rolls straight out of the oven, and then one on my plate, glazed and ready to eat:

Looking at the pictures is making me hungry again.
Kent loves Alton Brown and makes this recipe all the time!! He's refined it a bit with more cake flour but they are amazing!
ReplyDeleteJessica,
ReplyDeleteYour cinnamon rolls look so good, wish I was there (not just for the rolls, but especially to enjoy the company of you two).
Yesterday we had our Light the Night walk at the west capitol steps in Sacramento. The event was amazing, obviously emotional, so much meaning, so heartfelt. There were a lot of people. $250,000 raised! I was hoping to see Tina Fey, but no. A doctor who specializes in stem cell transplants spoke, also a 2 year survivor telling his amazing story. They also had a really good band playing and lots of kids were dancing. We walked with our balloons and t-shirts around the capitol building. Such a gorgeous, impressive building, and so many people cheering, whistling and honking horns. So glad we did so. Registering and getting t-shirts and balloons was a breeze. They had free water, bananas, granola bars and popcorn. We had 9 people in out little group. Was a hot evening even at 7:30. Enjoy your walks when they roll around.
Much love to the two of you, Bev/Mom
That's some Good Eats.
